Responsibilities

The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for obtaining pre-verification of insurance for patients and communicating insurance coverage, eligibility, and co-pays to all patients receiving elective procedures. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Accurately enters all benefit and precertification information required for billing purposes.
• Utilize the Referral/Reservation form and Pre-Admission letter to enter pertinent data for maintaining quality information.
• Obtain pre-certifications when necessary.
• Update insurance information to staff in regards to referral and authorizations should they be required.
• Maintain on-going knowledge of insurance plans by reading insurance memos and bulletins.
• Ability to recognize patients in financial need and provide charity applications and/or medical assistance applications.
• Resolve outstanding insurance issues prior to admission.
• Maintain pre-maternity lists and insurance work lists to ensure notification of copays is sent out to mothers due within 2 months of their expected delivery.
• Meet with inpatients that have a balance due before they are discharged.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma/GED required

Over 1 year to 3 years CPT and ICD coding and insurance billing required Bachelor's Degree Healthcare Administration, Business, or similar field of study preferred
